WedsSport RN-05M 19x9.5J +38 5x114.3 GBK
Not all 5-spoke wheels are built the same, and the WedsSPort RN-05M is concrete proof of this fact. The first of the WedsSport RN (Racing Navigate) series, the RN-05M is packed to the brim with technology. This wheel is the first wheel with dual AMF (flow form technology), where the main barrel structure as well as the front lip are created via flow form (for 9.0J and up only), allowing for a single-piece wheel with a lip that can be lower in weight compared to wheels which have fully casted lips. The "H" barrel shape allows for a high degree of rigidity to prevent the barrel from having any kind of flex during high load situations; strategically placed cutouts on the barrel behind the spokes called Air Plus+ (a Weds patent), allow for increased air volume inside the tire. Weight has been reduced in places where it isnt necessary through the use of ball-mill cutting and rounding off of cavities. For a finishing touch, the WedsSport logo has been CNC etched into one of the spokes. All WedsSport wheels are designed to exceed JWL/VIA standards by 20% and are made in Japan.
Utilizing Weds AMF (Advanced Metal Forming) technology, the RN-05M is able to be both incredibly light and strong!
Casting & Forging
Generally, the advantage of casting is that it melts aluminum alloy at high temperature and pours into a mold to form as one so the designing flexibility on the disc is pretty high thus it’s easy to mass produce and cost effective. On the other hand, from technical stand point, it’s hard to reduce weight since it’s difficult to form into thin metal. Also what was formed through casting is often uneven and particles are not cohesive therefore its strength is not good enough. On the other side, forged wheels are made by running a lump of aluminum or alloy into high-pressure pressing machine thus aluminum particles spread and formed according to wheel shape and it is stronger (Fiber Flow). Because of the way they are produced, forged wheels can be made light-weight. It seems like it’s perfect but there is a definite weakness of “It’s not flexible from design perspective. It has already been explained, forging process uses high rate of weight to form the shape consequently, it is not suitable for complicated cosmetic face design. Forging also has a disadvantage of being more expensive due to multi-processing.
